National forensic lab tests 6,000 samples in 11 months

KATHMANDU, July 10:The National Forensic Science Laboratory (NFSL) has carried out 6,520 sample tests in the first eleven months of the fiscal 2075/76 BS. The sample tests were undertaken in 1,770 cases the laboratory received from different agencies, the lab sources said.

KATHMANDU, July 10:The National Forensic Science Laboratory (NFSL) has carried out 6,520 sample tests in the first eleven months of the fiscal 2075/76 BS. The sample tests were undertaken in 1,770 cases the laboratory received from different agencies, the lab sources said.



Birendra Raj Shakya, acting executive officer of the lab, shared that the toxicology saw the highest number of tests during the period. It performed tests on 1,148 samples collected from 559 cases related to toxicology during the period, he informed.

Tests were performed on 500 cases related to chemistry, 129 biology and wildlife, 173 DNA and 417 disputed documents in the period. The NFSL has imported new technologies and equipments to provide test service on the cases received here, Shakya further shared. NFSL has been providing test services for generating scientific evidence in the cases with the use of updated technologies and equipment.


The laboratory has so far received highest cases from the courts followed by national parks, wildlife reserves, department of forestry, district forest offices, police, department of labour and district administration offices. The NFSL was established 14 years ago on the recommendation of Judicial Reforms Commission
