The new party formed by merging two major communist parties — CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) — will now use sun as its election symbol. Previously, the UML was using sun as its election symbol while the Maoist Center used hammer and sickle within circle as its election symbol.

Meanwhile, the election body has also barred any political party from using the election symbol of the erstwhile Maoist Center for a year.
