Sarita takes four as Nepal registers second straight win

KATHMANDU, Jan 14: Nepal women’s national cricket team has registered its second straight win as it defeated Malaysia by six wickets in the ongoing Thailand Women’s T20 in Thailand on Sunday.

KATHMANDU, Jan 14: Nepal women’s national cricket team has registered its second straight win as it defeated Malaysia by six wickets in the ongoing Thailand Women’s T20 in Thailand on Sunday. 



At the Asian Institute of Technology Ground in Bangkok, a four-wicket haul from Sarita Magar helped Nepal register its second win of the tournament. 


Earlier, Malaysia won the toss, elected to bat first and presented a target of 62 runs for the loss of all its wickets in 19.3 overs. In reply, Nepal chased the target hitting 64 runs for the loss of four wickets in 16.2 overs.  


Only two Malaysian batsmen could reach the double figures, while two batsmen were out for ducks.

Siow Tzen Yee hit the highest 12 runs for Malaysia, while opener Yusrina Yaakop contributed 11 runs for the team. Yaakop was the only Malaysian player to hit a four. 


Mas Elysa Yasmin and Winifred Duraisingam hit nine runs each, while the other batsmen could not score good runs for the team.  Sarita was the pick of the Nepali bowlers as she pocketed four wickets giving away 11 runs in 3.3 overs. Likewise, Kabita Kunwar, Indu Barma and Nery Thapa picked up a wicket each for the winning team. 


In reply, Roma Thapa was the highest scorer for Nepal with not out 20 runs off 24 balls which included a four, while she was supported by Sita Rana Magar’s 16 runs off 36 deliveries with a boundary. 


Mamta Kumari Chaudhary was also not out on nine runs, while Kajal Shrestha and Indu Burma hit nine and three runs respectively. 


Ainna Hamizah Hashim and Intan Jamadihayu Jaafar were the only players for Malaysia to pick up a wicket. They took a wicket each. 


Sarita was named the player of the match for her contribution.  


Nepal will now take on the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday. The UAE has won both of its matches with 61-run win over Thailand A on Saturday, while it saw off China by a big-margin win of 189 runs on Sunday.
