KATHMANDU, May 2: The Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN), one of the constituents of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF),  has concluded that the front's significance has ended after another constituent, Federal Socialist Forum Nepal (FSFN), decided to take part in the local elections.

The RJP was formed last week following the merger of six Madhes-based parties.

UDMF, the alliance of agitating Madhesi parties, was formed in 2015 following a 16-point agreement among the four major parties to promulgate the constitution.

A meeting of RJPN leaders on Tuesday agreed to disband the alliance arguing that it was meaningless to give continuity to the front in the wake of the FSFN decision to go to the local elections.

The proposal to disband the UDMF was put forth by RJPN leader Rajendra Mahato and supported by other leaders.

He also blamed FSFN Chair Yadav of betraying the Madhes movement.

“Though the party is a key constituent of the front, no consultation was made with us regarding the decision of the party to join the elections. What's the use of being in an alliance if one party decides to move unilaterally,” questioned Hridayesh Tripathi.

Earlier on the day, FSFN fielded candidates in all 34 districts including Kathmandu.
